Is 6 months as a Business Analyst enough to find a new role?

Hi,

I would like some advice regarding my current work situation.

I've been working as a test analyst for 7 years until recently when I was offered a job as business analyst/Tester which I accepted. I've been doing my new role for about 5 months, but I'm seriously considering leaving my company as I have not enjoyed my time there at all, although I have gained valuable business analyst experience.

I'm looking at two options:

  1. Look for another BA role

  2. Potentially take some time off to go travelling for a few months and take some BA qualifications

So, the question I would like to ask is having approx 6 months BA experience (which it is likely to be once everything is settled) enough to get another BA role? Ideally I would like to have a year's experience at my current workplace on my CV, but I don't think I can work there for another 6 months.

I was hoping tailoring my CV to include BA related work in my previous role a test analyst would help add some experience, as there is some cross over with a BA role i.e. looking at requirements. Do recruiters value and take this type of experience into account?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Personally IMO I would wait for a year to expire.  1 year looks WAY better than 6 months.  You have 7 years as a software test previously so no chance of looking like a hopper.

Get the year and bounce.  Start looking for positions as well.

Well individually 6 months of experience as BA will not be enough to find another job as BA. Your strength here is 7 years of experience as test analyst. That is what going to help you in getting another job as BA along with a factor that you have already worked for 6 months as BA with your present company. On this basis you can easily leave this job, refresh yourself and then find another good job.

In my opinion even after you complete Business Analyst course from training centres like "ExcelR Solutions" you will need enough experience that can give confident to play the vital role in a company. To gain such experience you need at least One Year experience. So wait until then.

It Never hurts to apply to anything ... they will not come to your door and punch you for applying, they might see something else on your resume that they like over others and hire you.

If they don't like you ... you won't hear a word ... But ... You Never Know.

Just Don't Let Something Pass.
