What should I do next?

Hi,

I started my career as sales guy but eventually moved into in an IT organization for data collection and market research purpose through Googling. Slowly I showcased my analytical skills and handled a web analytic project successfully in which I worked as a bridge between client requirements and technical team. Slowly I came into this role for other two web based products.

Right now I am completely working on requirements gathering, coordination with development and QA teams, doing functional testing. Apart from this I am also taking care of social media marketing thing. But all this I am doing without any guidance at my own. Now it has become 5 years in this kind of role where I am neither a complete market research / marketing person nor I am a complete business analyst.

I don't have any development experience and the domain i which I am working is not well known or say very niche. I am confused where i should head to. I want to be an expert in Business Analyst role. What is the suggestion for me?

 Hi Vivek,

I can relate with you since I had the same diemma a few years back. I am a graduate of an Engineering field with a Masters Degree, yet with few opportunities way back then I had no choice but teach IT subjects. To cut things short, I never practiced my degree since I was so engulfed with the IT world - not to mention that it is in fact in demand nowadays. With no relative background, I studied and honed my newfound skills on my own. Now we come to this point, where you decide what's next. My advise to you is to seek certifications online. I'm sure there are a lot of Firms who certify your skills as a business analyst. That's the only thing that stands in your way to moving to higher grounds. So I suggest you find an online certification body, get certified, and from there decide whether pursue your career on the existing environment or move forward. Your call =)
