Initial Step towards BA ???????

Hello Everyone,

I am truly impressed by this site where people are sharing information and guiding others.

I need some advice regarding working as a BA. I have a BCA degree and PG in MBA.

I have covered many subjetcs like programming, database design, project management and more subjects in IT as well as Management etc.

Well my specific task now is to become BA.

So now i want to do some courses through which i will get placement assistance as entry level BA.

Could you highlight some courses which i must to join to achieve entry level BA job.

I hope you understood what are my specific circumstances,

But I dont have work experience, as i am fresher. finding it real tough to enter the BA sector or even the IT sector.

I would really like some advice as to how should I go about moving from where I am presently into the BA position.

What would be the first step towards BA to get a job considering my background?

and which course i must do initially to become BA, please mention ourse name specifically.

I know currently there will be no openings for BA as a fresher,

So,Is there an alternative path? Kindly feel free to advice.I would really appreciate everyone's opinions. Thanks so much..

If any query you have please feel free to ask, cause i want to be a BA any how...

Thanks a lot.

Murli.

Re: Initial Step towards BA ???????

Hi Murli,

Welcome to this forum!  There are many resources at ModernAnalyst.com which tackle many of the questions that you are raising.

You seem to have 2 goals which might be hard to achieve both rigth away: get a job & become a BA.

Try to figure out which one is more pressing right now and focus on that one first.

My guess is that your first objective is to get a job.  In that case - spread you net wide: look for various opportunities which may be a good fit given your training (at the junior level): programming, database design/administration, quality assurance, technical support, systems analyst, etc.

Once you get that first job then you can focus on becoming a Business Analyst.  Get familiar with the BABOK and the type of skills and competencies a BA must have then make a plan to get there.

Also check out the list of Training Courses posted by the various vendors on our site.

Sincerely,

- Adrian

Re: Initial Step towards BA ???????

Hi Murli,

Sure - given that your goal is to become a Business Analyst - you can still take Business Analysis courses while gaining experience in a different role.  They will help you build a base of knowledge as well as would provide you with the necessary skills to apply in your current job when business analysis situations arise.  Once you demonstrate your BA skills you should have no problem moving into that role.

Plus - most of the skills that a Business Analyst has (or should have) are used folks in many other roles, for example:

  • Requirements Elicitation - most developers on agile projects perform requirements elicitation
  • Process Mapping - many business process owners and operations staff perform process mapping to better understand their organizations and processes
  • Functional Specifications - technical writers create functional specification documents
  • Diagrams: Class Diagrams, Sequence Diagrams, etc. - architects and developers use diagrams to model systems

So taking courses in Business Analysis would be helpful even if you don't ever end up with an actual title of "Business Analyst".

Wishing you success!

- Adrian

well could you tell me which courses i m must join for entry level of BA.

it would be my pleasure that if you tell in detail which specific course I should join, and even please tell me Institute name.
