Getting Started in Business Process Analysis - Coming from Manufacturing Contin Improve Background

As it says on the title I am looking for a career change to become a business process analyst, and was looking for some advice on things to read and jargon to learn.

I have started looking at the IIBA website, and have begun browsing the modern analyst website to gain some background knowledge.

I became interested on process improvement following three years spent on continuous improvement roles in manufacturing. I started down the path of Lean Six Sigma black belt, and realised that I wanted to do process improvement full time. The broader nature of the role, and the easier transition into non manufacturing roles, are the major factors in me looking into business process analysis.

Any help/advice is appreciated.

You already have Kaizen (Incremental Improvements) and most likely Kaikaku (Radical Improvements) experience ... in a manufacturing environment.

When I did a contract at a factory, I walked the factory floor, talked to the workers and got ideas from them on how to optimize a procedure or automate something ... then presented various stuff to the Big Black Belt, lean management teams in their weekly meetings.

Once they select something to fix ... I would go out and gather what can be done, write up requirements , user stories, etc. and work with whoever buids it to make sure they understand what has to be done.

It Seems You have experience that companies are looking for ... Don't be afraid, send in your resume to companies ... they might see something that attaracts their attention ...

A Couple of the jobs I see is:

"Process Improvement Analyst"

"Works with all levels of staff to research, plan and implement new methods. Monitors progress of ongoing programs and processes."

"Assist with Kaizen event planning, participate in each event and perform post-event audits."

-----

"Senior Business Process Analyst"

"Identify inefficiencies and reduce defects throughout order processing, fulfillment, and supply chain operations to deliver savings and improve customer service

Execute Lean methodologies such as 5S, Kaizens, visual control, layout optimization, and elimination of bottlenecks to maximize throughput".
