Currently, I work as a Sr. Business Analyst at a big company. mostly running SQL queries. my background is in math though.
i have two job offers.
1. Data Analyst at a Fortune 100 company- This job uses SAS, SPSS, etc and runs regressions, statistical models, etc to find oppurtunities, ineffieicnes with the company. So, a pretty heavy big data role, but beyond the basic querying. The pros of this job IMO are interesting work, awesome work environment at one of the companies known for being fun to work for, and i will learn alot of new software packages like SAS. And my would be boss used that as a selling point.
2. A risk and Finance leadership devolopment program at a fortune 100 company.- It rotates you around the companies business units for two years and trains you for a management role. This is the biggest company in my State. Its a finance heavy type of job. The pros for this job would be a set career path at one of the biggest companies at the world. The cons is that id probably have to work 10-15 more hours a week for the same pay. Seems less interesting than the other job as well.
I am leaning towards the Data Analyst role due to the following reasons
1. Ill learn alot new software packages.
2. Since ive job hopped around alot, this company ill be stuck at for 3-4 years. And this company is known for having great work-life balance.
3. The work seems more interesting.
4. the office of job B, was more of an open concept. atleast for my would be team. And everyone was wearing aprons that people in the companies retail stores wear. like i guess done to promote a team enviroment, but seemed like ant farm. Whereas the other office, is on the top floor of a skyscraper and looks like something id see in the movies.
I guess what makes me nervous is that this could be short sighted and the other job could be much stronger in terms of long term career growth since it has a set path and they are commiting alot of resources to train you to be successful on that path.
thoughts?
