Salary levels for business analyst beginners

I'm in Canada, several years in software development, considering going into business analysis. My current salary is $60,000, or $65000 if you count RRSP contributions. Would I be able to demand that sort of salary when switching to business analysis? My current employer does not use business analysts so it would not be a case of just moving along in the company - I would have to find a new job. Would my years experience as a developer count for anything in the salary stakes?

All salary markets are local - there are many variables to take into account (supply v. demand of BAs in your market, cost of living, etc.).

In Alberta, if you've had some BA experience through your software development (say 6 months equivalent) then $60K before benefits would be pretty reasonable.  In fact, if you go to a consulting firm you can probably ask for a little more ($65K or so).  I have no idea if this would translate to BC, Ontario or elsewhere.

That's about the right amount here in Australia also, assuming you have some appropriate business experience (eg industry domain, or the right level of management experience in a large business.)

Australian salaries are reoprted pretty regularly. Here is one from late last year.
