BPMN  

Hi guys. 

Have a look at the below BPMN diagram. What's wrong with it?

     The Decision point (the diagnol) should not in between the swimlanes ,must be in one of the swinlane(organizational unit)

A few prompts:

  • Should there be End points on the tasks (1.0 and 2.0) in the Customer lane? 
  • Should there be a start point in the Billing System lane (leading into task 3.0)? 
  • Can message flows attached to decision points?

Main problem I can see is that your two activities 'Make payment direct' and 'funds transfer to bank account' are solutions to an activity undertaken by the Customer to ' Make Payment'. My recommendation to you is to just have that one activity the customer does. Then you only have one starting point and you don't need the gate which makes no sense anyway cause the process only ever starts in one place.

Another problem is having a swimlane with two actors in it i.e. billing system; cashier. I suspect billing system is the system you are defining and 'cashier' and 'customer' are actors who uses it. One swimlane = one actor and the system you are describing can't be an actor using itself (doesn't make sense if you think about it). Reckon you have two actors in this process - Customer, Cashier.

Hi Mark,

I'm going to comment based on the BPMN notation standards:

  • In the customer swimlane you have two "start" events (that's a problem) and not "end" event.  If you want to show 2 different processes on the customer side, you might consider 2 different diagrams or show each process with it's own start and end.
  • I'm assuming you that "Customer" and "Billing Systems" are two different pools (as opposed to just swimlanes) since they are not attached.  In this case, a process flow cannot cross the pool boundary.  The gateway that sits in between the two pools does not make sense.
  • The process in the "Billing Statement" pool does not have a "start" event.

The problem with giving feedback is that we don't know what you're trying to accomplish with this diagram.  Perhaps you can explain your requirements or process in plaing English first.
