BPMN questions

Hi all,

I have several questions re BPMN.

1. I use comditional flows instead of gateways as it saves space. Usually conditional flows are mutually exclusive like Yes/No or Approved/Declined etc. But if conditions are NOT mutually exclusive can conditioanl flows be used as well instead of inclusive gateway (taking into account that merge is not required)?

2. If as part of a process I want to trigger another step or steps then there is a thing called event sub-process and I can use interrupting or non-interrupting start event. Does it need to be a sup-process?

For example I have a proces that has 5 steps. At any step of the process the operator can ask another team a legal questions and receive an answer. So I want to add a non-interrupting start event and then have 2 steps: 1. ask question and 2. provide answer. Can I avoid using event-subprocess? Does it make sense what I described?

Thank you very much for any answers.
