My current company seems to be sold on PegaSystems BPM & workflow. The general idea is the business and the business analysts develop process flows in VISIO front end of Pega add business rules, design a few GUIS and hey presto fully integrated working software is excreted at the press of a button. No developers or testers required at all....one can only assume that the .exe is produced by the Pega software. Apparently the code is produced in Java [yet no one can tell be what Java it's just generic java?!]
Originally coming from a development [coder] background this seems a little far fetched & similar to the claims of some Case tools/ database combos’ from about 15 years ago - they always ended up costing more that they apparently saved & they always needed rework or a complete rewrite by real developers.
Has anyone had any experience with Pega and actually built working software from the process models? I am particularly keen to know about anyone with experience in building Service desk type applications with this tool.
What are the benefits and problems of using the tool?
