Axure: Anyone used it? Any comments?

I do a lot of prototyping and use Expression Web at the moment. But Axure looks like a cool option? What you all think?

I must admit I'm tool agnostic. I dont really like using tools because tools constrain your thinking; and for an analyst thinking is most important. I used tools very late in the process, normally after the user and Analyst agree on their wants.

warm regards,

K

When it comes to analysis, I'm tool agnostic. However, when considering design and prototyping, tools are essential. I had a quick look at Axure, looks very Visio-ish! Prototyping is good, especially when you have a user that cannot visualise the final product. On the downside, I know of some prototypes that have seen the light of day as production systems will all their inherent faults. Prototypes by nature are quick and dirty. Again, prototypes later constrains design, because the user now has a visual that they've IMPRINTED and they cannot sometimes accept a better view or version.

Warm regards,

K

Re: Axure: Anyone used it? Any comments?

I had my team use Axure to develop some semi-sophisticated mockups for a set of validation workshops we did early this year.  The product was relatively easy to learn and use (had several non-technical BAs doing the mockups).  If you're looking to demo a web-based app it can be a good option - you can build 'interactive' scenarios based around use cases/processes fairly easily.

If you're looking for mockups that can be easily transferred into working apps, I would look elsewhere. But if you're okay with a clear separation between prototypes and working product, then it can be a good option.
