3rd Party Vendors

The BA team that I'm has a need to increase our skills and understanding of how our role, deliverables, activities etc. might be different when working on development projects that will be leveraging a 3rd party vendor as all/part of the delivered solution.  We're looking into cases when its a total purchase of a solution, maybe purchase with customizations (COTS), or using a 3rd party to custom build, or even using a 3rd party service (maybe they host some of the software, or provide some sort of look-up/validation checks on our companies data).

I have about 15+ years in this profession, am well acqainted with the "normal" (haha) activities/deliverables and services the BA role supplies.  Have even worked on some projects w/3rd party, but not often and there seems like more might be coming, each so far has been "interesting".

Any materials, examples, info, experiences you can share are greatly appreciated!

We have a couple of posts on our blog regarding vendor selection. Plus I think there is also a whitepaper. There are also many general articles around modeling requirements that are probably also applicable. Here is a link to two posts that are related to vendor selection
