Literature On How To Partition A System?
To All:

Can anyone refer me to literature (on-line, in print, articles, books) on how to partition a system (system in this case being manual, automated or a combo).   This would not be a discussion on the conventions of using circles, ovals, etc, to document functions/processes on a systems diagram.  Before one draws a circle, oval, etc.  he/she needs to somehow determine the extent of the function/process represented by the circle, oval, etc.  That is what I am looking for: a discussion on the logical thought process involved in determining the extent of the individual functions/processes on a system diagram.

Thanks,
