Re: how to start for job

Gamie,

Welcome!

Since you’re an account graduate may I suggest you utilise those skills in addition to your newfound competencies in Business Analysis. Here are two options:

  • Find a accounting project within your organization and “volunteer” as a subject matter expert
  • Find an external accounting project and work on the business side of the project as apposed to the IT side.

Find Financial System implementations like SAP, ORACLE, BAAN and AGRESSO to start with; otherwise find the traditional accounting functional groupings such as Account Payable, Accounts Receivable, Asset management etc.

All the best mate!

Warm regards,
K

Re: how to start for job

If you have an Accounting background most of the "Project Coordinator" jobs I have looked at should not be to much of a stretch.  It would help to get a Project Manager book and run through it so you have some more background in PM. Or take the PM course at careerbuilder.com ($29.99USD). I have no doubt it is a intro course at that price.

Being a BA, of course, is not being a Project Coordinator.  But it might let you slide into more BA activities sideways.

If your still unclear about what/how a BA does things after you roam around this website here is a pretty good book: "Seven Steps to Mastering Business Analysis" by Barbra Carkenord.

Its in the resources section (I think) of this website.  Has a link to Amazon.com
