Hello World
Modified By AdamITBSA on 11/28/2011 7:41:02 AM)

Hi all -- I recenetly came across the site after not having any idea such a resource was out there.  I'm finding it to be a veritable treasure trove of good information and discussion on the practice!

I look forward to seeing what else is available through ModernAnalyst!

PAST EDIT (no longer applicable; retained for historical purposes): whoops... didn't realize username is displayed in forum.  Any way to change this in profile for the privacy-conscious of us who don't want to get google-linked by name?

Hi Adam,

Welcome to the ModernAnalyst.com community! Glad to hear you find it a treasure chest!

You can change your display name in your account profile.

Re: Hello World

Hi Adrian -- thanks for the helpful feedback.

Could you or an admin attempt to help me resolve this issue?  It seems to me that my Display Name is set for the profile, however the field used in the forums is my User Name.

Steps I'm taking:

1. I access modernanalyst.com

2. System displays "Login" and "Register" at the top right (no Display Name shown)

3. I access "Login"

4. System prompts me to "Login or Register"

5. I login with my registered User Name.

6. System displays "Logout" in top right, and shows my Display Name as a link to the profile (hovertext::"Click Here To Go To Your Profile Page.")

7. I click the link to go to my profile, and I choose "Edit Profile"

8. System displays the "Manage Profile" page: system displays my account User Name (can't change this) and my account Display Name (can change this).

9. I verify the Display name is correct, and click "Update"

10. The system briefly displays a status indicator (red boxes?), then continues to display my Manage Profile page.

Expected result: the link in the top-right should use my account Display Name (not my username), and any forum posts/other interactions should use my account Display Name.

Observed result: the link in the top-right uses my Display Name (expected), however the forum posts are using the User Name (not expected).

Re: Hello World

Hi Adam,

Thank you for the step-by-step explanation of what you did - it's obvious you are a BA!  :-)

And... you are correct!  It appears that there was an incorrect setting in the forum - which we have fixed.  The forum should not show the Display Name and not the Username.

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention.

- Adrian

Re: Hello World

Great -- thanks Adrian for the prompt reply and the helpful info on the resolution.

Stopped by the forums this morning; the display name is being shown as expected -- mission accomplished.  :-)

Adam

Your title cracks me up, it reminds me of the first VBA program I wrote in Excel.

I just joined as well, and hope to learn a lot and eventually contribute.

Cheers!
