Hello ,
I have joined the site 3 months back. I feel the site quite interesting. I mentioned in my previous mails that I have 2 years experience as an ABAP developer ,
and want to change my career as a BA . I want to try in the insurance sector. I request some inputs so that I would be perfect with the domain knowledge of that sector. I am well versed with the UML design and RUP methodologies.
I appreciate suggestions from other forum members as well.
Thanks in advance and Regards,
Olnim.
I have worked in the insurance sector for a year and half. We need to have an understanding of HIPPA. Great you already know about RUP and UML modeling because thats what they usually use. Most of the acronyms and terminologies about healthcare sector, you will know as you work on projects to projects. Just understand what is a Provider, facility and non-facility, professional and ancillary, different kinds of forms use in Insurance sector like 835 and such. But like i said you will learn as you work on the projects on an everyday basis. Dont stress!
thanks for the response prajani . Good inputs.
Regards,
thanks for the kind reponse on the insurance sector. As per your suggestion I browsed for some sites on HIPPA . Just confirm if the information below is suffice to get good knowledge on HIPPA. By the way I could not get information on the forms 835 which you have mentioned in your response mail.

Hi Olnim-
The link didnt work for me. Anyways- usually the insurance company you will work for will give you a basic tutorial on HIPAA. You really dont need to know a lot about it. It is kinda like, lets see, EEo act which applies in every org but you dont necessarily have to use it but everyone needs to know about it. HIPAA is like that. It is the health Iinsurance privacy and portability act (not sure if this is exactly right) so basically these are the members privacy act that you will not disclose the classified info and such. Its not a biggie really. They will give you the basic tutorial and if they dont, when you wiki HIPAA, the amountof info you get in the blogs should be more than enough.
There are almost 10-15 forms like 835 that the insurance uses. You will learn it in your day day job function. Again if you have told the company that you have never worked on insurance industry, they wont expect you to know all this.
So as long as you are good with RUP and UML, these things you will learn as your everyday job functionality.
Hope this helps. Not trying to scare you.
Good Luck!
