Hello - Slow learner question
Hi all,

This is my first post.

I'm a junior business analyst who has a major issue - I'm a slow learner.
Despite my best efforts (e.g. asking for stakeholders to clarify themselves and using visuals and tables to help me organise my thoughts) I find myself overwhelmed with the amount of information I have to take in and I tend not to fully get things straight away. Sometimes I wonder if I know what I'm doing.

What tips are there for picking up things faster/improving my comprehension?

Dave

Re: Hello - Slow learner question

Hi Dave,

All the best to you in your excellent career choice.  Given your newness, I can certainly see why you may be uncomfortable at times.  While a lot of BA skills require a "learn as you go" approach, to address your immediate concern, I suggest the following.  Since you have difficulty (understandably) with info overload, your penchant for diagramming and table is certainly a step in the right direction.  You might also consider mind maps that help you crystallize your understanding while showing rela'ships among topics.  Last, a mark of a good BA is to always consider the forest, while being able to dive into the trees.  Any outlines you can create - showing broader topics with subsidiary sub-topics will be of great help too.

All the Best!

Hi Tom,

Thanks for that - I've looked at mind maps and think they'll prove useful in the long term and hopefully aid my understanding of concepts.
