Re: A newbie BA questions

Hi All...

I need some suggestion/views from you guys.
I am working as a Business Analyst for past 9 months. I have 2.5 years experience as Software Engineer also. Now if i take up some work which involves some technical work (as opposed too pure business analysis work), will that affect my career adversely in long term?
This technical assignment will be for 5-6 months.

Thanks!

Prachi

Hi Prachi,

Doing some technical work should not adversely impact your career.  Business Analysts with strong technical skills are an asset to any organization.  Having said that, I'm hoping that the new assignment will continue to give you some analysis experience even if it is just systems analysis.

Re: A newbie BA questions

Thanks Adrian.

New assignment will have some analysis part but not much. So i was bit skeptical if this gap will affect the next assignments as i wont have the proper BA experience.

Re: A newbie BA questions
Hi Prachi, Business Analysis is as much a part of the mindset. Even in your new assignment, you should very well be able to apply the BA skills that you have acquired over the past two years. If you are moving into core Delivery/Software development, you will still have the ability to exercise your BA skills, especially so in a Scrum/Agile environment. Infact, you should consider yourself lucky to have some technical exposure, as this will definetely come handy when you take up a "pure" BA assignment going forward. All the best! Vasu

As Business Analysts in Agile teams, we often hear about Definition of Ready (DOR) and Definition of Done (DOD). But beyond the buzzwords, these two concepts are powerful tools to drive clarity, consistency, and quality in our work. Definition of Ready ensures a user story is truly ready for development. It answers: Is this story clear, feasible...
In today's fast-paced digital world, successful projects aren't just built on great code—they're built on clarity. And that clarity often comes from one key player: the Business Analyst. At the heart of every great product or system is a need—a business goal, a customer pain point, or a regulatory requirement. But busines...
I have always loved cooking. I learned from my Grandma June and her kitchen was her sanctuary, a small, warm sunlit space filled with jars of spices, stacks of cookbooks, and the comforting smell of something always on the stove or baking in the oven. Grandma June was as great a cook as she was a teacher to me. She never followed a recipe “to...
