I've done Consulting for 30+ years and a Rounded, Jack-Of-All-Trades has kept me employed ... from programming to Project Management (PMP) ... able to work in any area of the Project Life Cycle as needed. 

Different activities might be boring sometimes ... but it depends on what you can offer a company to get hired or advance.
