Business Rules Documenting Approach

Good afternoon dear community,

I wanted to conduct a quick poll to see what is most common approach fellow BA/BSAs take when documenting business rules.  In your reply please indicate which answer best applies to you:

a) Documenting business rules using If-Else statements or other pseudo code terminology (such as: When x equals y system will not allow user to register)

b) Using Plain English approach (System cannot accept more than 25 student registrations per one class)

c) Other (please briefly specify what consitutes as 'Other' to you).

Your response and time are much appreciated.

Thank you,

Roman

Re: Business Rules Documenting Approach

Hi Roman,

Even without a business rule management system (BRMS) there are other ways to document business rules besides using pseudocode or structured English.

Two often use techniques are:

  • Decisions Tables, and
  • Decision Trees.
