Masters Certificate in Business Analysis

 Folks,

I have been writing programs/codes for past 5 year and now I fee that this is not something I want for rest of the carrier. So I decided to pursue Business System Analyst (BSA). Since I do not have much experience or knowledge in this field, I decided to take some courses from Schulich (York University Toronto). Click on the link below for more details-

http://seec.schulich.yorku.ca/enrollment/programs/alpha_listing/file_2_listing.php?course_id=74&section=description

Please, let me know if this course will help me to get all that I need to know about BSA and if it is worth investing all that money ($9000 canadian)?

Thanks in advance.

Mohoq

Re: Masters Certificate in Business Analysis

Hi Mohoq,

I'm not familiar with the York University BA Certificate but it looks like it's an 18 day program (all modules).  Many training providers offer 2-3 day courses which cost anywhere between $1500 to $3000 so from the cost perspective this seems to be in line if not cheaper than the average.

Also - looking at the types of topics they cover - it appears that they will touch upon most of the important aspecs of the Business Analyst role.

I'm a big advocate of getting trained however training is never a substitute for work experience.  It would be great if you already work as a BA and then take the modules offered one at a time and apply what you've learned in real life then move on to the next module.

In addition, in person courses allow you to interact with the instructor as well as with fellow students.

Re: Masters Certificate in Business Analysis

I have taken the Masters Certificate in Project Management from Schulich last fall and thought it was a great course.  I will be taking the MCBA this fall as well to compliment my work experience.   You will definitely learn a lot.
