requirements for portal

Hi All,  I need to capture business requirements for a portal, my specific task is to distribute info on the user portal home page when a user logs in. the info displayed to the user need to be specifc to that user based on this personal info

the content manager publishes the content on the portal , so based on user personal info and content published- the data base has to generate a list pertaining to that user or group of users

I need to capture business requirements-  Please advice on how to start and where to dig for info

Re: requirements for portal

 Hi Roger,

You have your start point already:

  • When a user logs in the system  needs to display content that matches the personal preferences of that user

But I guess you are asking what comes next -

  • Agree what your deliverable is, does your organisation have templates you can use?

  • Try to define the scope of what you are expected to look at, is it just defining how content matches to user profiles or is it the management of the whole system - think setting up content interest groups, adding / removing users from these groups / hierarchy of information display

  • Talk to who gave you the task, they will either have some views on the requirements or point you to the person who wants the system

  • Identify who will use the system, talk to these guys to find out what they want

  • Establish if there are limitations on the type of content or the way it is displayed - this may be a requirement of the system

Hope this is enough to get you started

Al
