Structure Requirments Packages

Section 5.2 of V1.6 of BABOK is a task called "Structure Requirments Packages".  Can someone please provide me with an understanding of this task, as I am having some difficulty understanding the BABOK definiition.

One of the tasks that is performed by the business analyst is stakeholder identification and categorization.  Once the requirements have been elicited/analyzed, the BA will need to present/communicate the requirements to the stakeholders.

One thing that the analyst needs to consider is the need to communicate the requirements differently to the various types of stakeholders.

For example:

  • executive management might only want to see an executive summary of the requirements,
  • business stakeholders would probably want to see the requirements in business language,
  • the development team would need access to the detailed functional and technical requirements.

The "Prepare Requirements Package" is the task/activity in which the business analyst creates the documents/artifacts which will be used to communicate the requirements to the stakeholders.  The BABOK clearly identify the struggle of this task since, if possible, it is a good idea to tailor your communication for each distinct type of stakeholders.  The downside is that the BA would have to create and later maintain multiple requirement packages (versions).

Hope this helps!
