I need some experienced opinion please
Modified By rol1 on 9/16/2011 10:07:43 AM)

Hi All,

I currently work as a test analyst within finance and would like to pursue a career in business analysis. i didnt want to get in just  by taking exams, and i felt i needed some solid grounding in best practices and so,  i have enrolled myself on to a part time postgraduate course in Business Analysis and Design.

my plan was to start applying for Junior Business analyst roles after a year of study, by then i would have completed a 'specification engineering course.

my question is, do you think i'm going about it the right way? or should i go in the direction of short courses and take the exams?

I would also like to add that i am based in the UK.

Re: I need some experienced opinion please

There is no one "right" approach.  But I think yours is a good start.

First, I should say that I started as a business analyst before colleges were offering focused courses.  So, I don't have a first hand knowledge of what they are teaching you.  It might be good for you and for the communicty to get a list of the topics you will be covering.  Then we can give you some pointers as to any gaps we think you might want to fill.

I do think that some solid coursework from a college will help you get into the first role.  Additionally, you should see if there is anyway in your current role to take on some small portion of a business analyst role.  Even if its in an assistance capacity or unoffical.  This will give you some hands on experience and give you so actual experience to speak about in the interviews.

Re: I need some experienced opinion please

 Hi,

To decide whether your way is right or wrong, you have to mentioned what is the content of the topic and based on that it can be decided.

The main thing to take up for this role is to understand the complete SDLC and the basics of the domain you are looking for like in your case its finance, also study is the good way but until you start implementing or using what you are studying it never helps.

As you have mentioned that you are test analyst, will suggest that do more of functional testing which will enhance your BA capabilities and then in your current company you can ask your manager that I would like to take up a new role and with work if you study it's going to help you a lot.

I have always loved cooking. I learned from my Grandma June and her kitchen was her sanctuary, a small, warm sunlit space filled with jars of spices, stacks of cookbooks, and the comforting smell of something always on the stove or baking in the oven. Grandma June was as great a cook as she was a teacher to me. She never followed a recipe “to...
