New BA - Requirements roleplay...
Modified By OliverG on 9/10/2008 12:38:15 AM)

Hi,

I have taken up a role as a BA - and am still struggling to know "what I do".

I have lots of online resources/CBT courses through my company - but as yet have not been "let lose" on a project. I am keen to learn as much as I can so that when I do/am let lose - I make a good impression.

BA work is totally new to me, although in a past job I was asked to create extensive documentaion etc. My background is Telecoms Analysis.

I read with great interest the Requirements Gathering Role Play - and wondered if we could play again?

Thanks (and THANK YOU for this forum!)

Re: New BA - Requirements roleplay...

Hi OlverG,

Regarding the ATM Requirements example - the requirements were gathered and then we took that role play further and created data flow diagrams based on the requirements.  The next step is we were thinking of doing was to have folks create the use case model: diagram(s) & use case narratives.

If you and others want to create a new thread and create the use case model that would be great.

Great!  Glad you found it!

Just for everybody's benefit, here were the 2 threads that I was talking about:

As I said, we were thinking of starting a third thread for: Use Case Model: Bank ATM Example if there were takers who are willing to give this a shot and create the use case diagram and use case specifications by starting with the most recent version of the requirements document in the requirements thread.

Hi Adrian

I just posted a huge post and lost it! ;0(

Anyway, Ive taken it upon myself to create my own workflow Diagrams. This is new to me, and I want to add it to my toolkit and feel I need to get a bit hands on to understand it fully - hope thats ok. (Theey are a work in process though!)

Secondly I have two questions i would like to ask for the requirements. And one Q for claification.

1. What is a CD account? What does it do/is its function (Ive never heard of one here - so need to know what it does/is)

The next tow questions are for the req doc - Im not sure if they are relevent though (this is so new to me) and I dont want to sound an eejit by putting them up on the new thread yet....Can you just give me an idea if they are the kind of Q's I should be thinking/asking?

Firstly:

Point 6.3 On the requirements document states that the system shall allow unlimited deposits until $$$ deposit  limit is reached.? In the UK when we deposit cash/Cheques they go in an envelope and into a letterbox/Hole on the ATM - job done. It doesnt show in our account till next day, and also, we put teh $$$ on teh envelope and thats it. There is no interaction with teh ATM directly in terms of elextronic communication.. How does the ATM used by cyberbank (or even other countries) - know the amount deposited? Is the customer required to use the ATM's interface to record this transaction?

My reason for asking this is that

If the ATM is not informed electronically (ie amount input into ATM interface directly using keypad etc) How does it know when the limit is reached?

If the ATM is notified electronically I have a whole host of other Q's!!!!

Also:

Is there a facility/functionality for the cyberbank tray to know when its "deposit" tray is full - if is it required to A) notify Cyberbank admin, and B) notify Customers deposits cannot be made at the ATM at the current time?

(again I dont know where deposits are stored physically at teh ATM - but im assume worst case and every man and his dog decides to deposit money on teh same day!)

I may be asking these Q's at the wrong stage - Am I?

Thanks again!
