Hi,

It largely depends on what tool your project is using.
Agile projects are becoming more prevalent and Jira is widely used.Jira as we all know walks us through all phases of Agile from Spirnt planning to delivery. I worked in a project where we did project tracking with help of JIRA.

MS VISO : It is one of the widely used tool which enables mapping of project requirements ,data and ensures project tracking.It provides a feature called Process maps that is very useful in modeling the business process flow. UML and other context diagrams are available but I am not sure if these diagrams are still being used in many projects.

Wireframes:
It is a great a tool. It helped me effectively to provide the protype of the  project and present the Visual of the requirements. It also provides a clear picture of functionality of the application with user interaction.

There are many other tools available but it all depends on the what the project stakeholders are using or recommending to use.

Let's consider the role of a BA first, after that we can dive deeper into tools & techniques.

  1. Analysis 
    1. JAD sessions -  read more
    2. Design thinking - read more
    3. Interview - read more
    4. Brainstorming - read more
    5. Survey - Perform a survey to get more about your customers
    6. Relevant product analysis - See the flow of relevant products, get ideas from it, improvise and repeat.
    7. Competitor product/site analysis - as the name suggest find loop-holes in competitor product and try to implement in a better way in your project/product
  2. User stories/Epics writing
    1. Follow SMART(Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant & Timebounded) or INVEST(Independent, Negotiable, Valuable, Estimable, Small & Testable) approach while writing user stories. Read More
    2. Tools - TeamGantt, Miro
  3. Requirement drafting
    1. To draft requirement, you can follow your preferable medium like a doc, sheet, or presentation for that 
  4. Wireframing / Prototyping
    1. Balsamiq Tool - Low fidelity, rapid and limited functionality. focused on UX and interactivity
    2. Axure RP Tool - Low to High fidelity with more complex features, focused on UI/UX and complex interactivity
    3. Figma Tool - High fidelity, Focused on Design, Time consuming, Better quality prototypes
    4. Some online tools - Not recommended 
  5. Communication - This is more important because you need a good tool for seamless communication
    1. Slack - Messaging app with Jira, trello & other integrations
    2. Skype
    3. Hangouts
  6. Sprint Management / Product Backlog management
    1. Trello
    2. Jira
    3. Google Sheets
  7. Requirement tracing
    1. RTM - Requirement Traceability Matrix  - Read More
  8. Issues/Bugs/Change management 
    1. Trello
    2. Jira
    3. Google Sheets
  9. Release management
    1. Google docs
    2. MS Word
    3. Confluence

 Conclusion 

As a modern BA you must be aware of at least 1 wireframe tool, many requirement gathering techniques, and at least 1 project management tool. I personally recommend Axure RP, Jira & Trello tools and JAD Sessions, Brainstorming, relevant product analysis techniques.

These roles may differ from organization to organization, so feel free to add/remove them.

I would also suggest a Qualitative Data analysis tool for idendifying "Hotspots" for change.
