Career change and statistics

Dear All,

I'm contemplating a career change into Data Analysis and I'm trying to do as much knowledge gathering as I can. As I'm completing my Masters in Information management I have access to an array of literature from my Uni and have been looking at machine learning, programming, Visualization, and Database theory with a few recommended titles.

When it comes to Statistics I'm a bit unsure which book and level to look at. I have the expected level of academic average math skills but I'm not sure which book to look into when thinking of Statistics for Data analysis.

Can anyone recommend a good book to get me started?
