CBAP Integration with Current BA Roles

Has anyone successfully integrated the certification into the definition of your BA roles? If not, how do you guys see CBAP integrating with BA roles that exist in your company?

Just wondering if you see this more as a tool to help the BA in job placement elsewhere, or if you see this as a tool that would benefit an organization if they choose to sponsor their BAs in this process.

Re: CBAP Integration with Current BA Roles

I dont have the certification but I have read the CBAP study material and I think it is more like helping a BA get a better placement elsewhere and yes somewhere it does help you to perform better.
But my concern is that I dont qualify for the CBAP cert. yet and I dont want to just sit around and wait till I finish my 7500 hours. Does anyone know anything about the BA Certification from B2T Training (http://www.b2ttraining.com/). If there are other certifications out there that I can take please list them.

Re: CBAP Integration with Current BA Roles

Hi

In terms of the ISEB Business Analysis Certificate foundation the ideal preparation is the Business Analysis Book edited by Debra Paul and Donald Yeates. It is a BCS Book and provides excellent directly relevent coverage of the exam material and is highly recommended. It is all you need to sit the exam.

Regards,

K

Re: CBAP Integration with Current BA Roles

Even if you don't yet qualify for the CBAP (you won't know until you work up your hours for the app), you will get a lot out of reading the BABOK.  The more you read it, the more likely you are to incorporate the material into your job and the more effective you will become.  That effectiveness will also help you in your application if you are short.  I found that reading the BABOK more than once over several months was especially useful when it came to exam time.  That additional comfort level was pretty evident when doing the practice exams.

As for the B2T certification - figure out what it is you want.  Are you looking at it from the standpoint of being "more qualified" on your resume or just something to display to show you have completed training?  You will probably find the certification might get you a few more questions but for the most part, its your experience as a BA that will be the difference maker on your resume if you don't yet have enough to qualify for the CBAP.   I have taken 2 of their courses and found them to be very well done and enthusiastically endorse them.  I know 2 of the instructors through their envolvement in the IIBA - so they walk the walk and talk the talk, in addition to be great people.  I hope I'm not coming off as high-and-mighty, just trying to get you to consider what it is you want to get out of the B2T program.

Best of luck,

Steve J.
