As of, oh... a few days ago ( :-) ), with thanks to Adrian guiding toward the BPMN and UML route, I started using Visio for UML modeling. I came across ArgoUML today.
a) Is ArgoUML a program used that much in industry? Would it be helpful to learn?
b) If you've used ArgoUML, does it have advantages over Visio?
TIA
I have not used ArgoUML. ArgoUML is free because it's Open Source but that comes with it's own drawbacks (FYI: I'm not saying Open Source is bad!). For example: UML 2.0 is the most recent version of UML but it looks that ArgoUML only supports UML 1.4. Also, if you need support you probably won't be getting it with ArgoUML as most Open Source projects don't have such infrastructure.
Thanks for the input, Adrian.
You're very welcome! I forgot to mention one more thing. While Visio does also support BPMN (via an add-on stencil) here is a tool which has great support for BPMN and which has a version which you can use for free: Active Modeler
Excellent! I'll check out Active Modeler next!
After you informed me of BPMN last week, I downloaded a Visio stencil from the OMG Website, and messed with it a little. I must admit, however, that I'm starting with UML Activity diagrams and then I'll move onto BPMN modeling. I think (hope) that will be an advantageous route...
EDIT: Is Active Modeler used in the business analysis industry by your experience?
