Hello Folks!!

My name is Kevin Tran.  I just recently joined IIBA and found Modern Analyst in the web pages of the IIBA site.  I'm really hoping to learn something new from this community as well as share my knowledge and experiences.  I love collaboration.

I started out as a Java programmer 9 years ago and made the typical transition from developer to team lead/business analyst to project lead and just recently achieved PMP certification.  My next goal is the CBAP.

I am currently a business analyst for Sogeti USA, the most amazing consulting firm and employer I've ever worked for.  My client is in the oil business in Houston.  I have experience in health care, retail, academia, food services, and now the energy industry.  My passion is with business analysis because I truly believe BA's are the key to successful projects.  You can have a great PM and a great technical team, but it is the Business Analyst that is the glue, or the bridge, or whatever cliche you want to use, that maintains the project focus and ensures the customer gets what she wants.  If a project fails, it can most likely be traced to poor business analysis.

Business analysis is fast becoming a well-recognized and respected profession rather than an after-thought.  We, business analysts, need to step up to all the challenges.

Kevin

P.S.  I have a profile on LinkedIn at www.linkedin.com/in/kevintran.  Let's get connected.

Re: Hello Folks!!

Hi Kevin,

It is nice to hear from another BA with the same journey as my own. I too started in development but with different language as it was about 17 years ago ;)) I think that the transition from developer to team lead and then the move into business analysis gives a unique perspective. This combined with the PMP (I'm in this club too) allows me to ask my clients the best questions from three different points of view: development, management and business. Of course it is hard to keep up in all three areas but it is worth the time.

Welcome to the forum!

Vessela

Re: Hello Folks!!

Thanks Adrian & Vessela,

Where are you both located?  I just posted an issue facing us former developers as BA's in the General subject.  I'd love to hear your perspectives.  Sorry, I didn't get the link.

again, thanks for the welcome.

~Kevin~
