Business Intelligence Tools

There are quite a few BI tools available in the market, Microstrategy, Business Object, Brio and Oracle Discoverer are some of these. I had a chat with a DWH Architect the other day and he insisted SAS is can not be categorized as BI tool. Does anyone agree with that? I have no experience with SAS other than having a look at the functional interface.

Also, which one is currently considered the most popular BI tool going with application that include DWH architecture?

Will appreciate the input.

Re: Business Intelligence Tools

This is something you could spend quite a bit of time arguing over, and different Analysts/Developers & Architects will give varying answers.  It really depends on how 'Tight' your definition of a BI Tool is, and the kind of functionality you believe such products should posses.

For a commonly used definition, Gartner use 12 Key Capabilities to mark a product as a Full BI Tool, and SAS is featured in their latest 'Magic Quandrant' (Can be found here: http://mediaproducts.gartner.com/reprints/sas/vol5/article8/article8.html).  In terms of the big players it's currently Oracle OBIEE, Cognos & Business Objects, personal preference is for OBIEE, but I think it's quite a closely run thing with current popularity/adoption rates.

Re: Business Intelligence Tools

SAS, BO and Microstrategy are the ones I heard most. Don't really know how Microsoft BI tool is doing in the market... what do they call it? I am thinking there may be a proper name of this one...

As Business Analysts in Agile teams, we often hear about Definition of Ready (DOR) and Definition of Done (DOD). But beyond the buzzwords, these two concepts are powerful tools to drive clarity, consistency, and quality in our work. Definition of Ready ensures a user story is truly ready for development. It answers: Is this story clear, feasible...
In today's fast-paced digital world, successful projects aren't just built on great code—they're built on clarity. And that clarity often comes from one key player: the Business Analyst. At the heart of every great product or system is a need—a business goal, a customer pain point, or a regulatory requirement. But busines...
I have always loved cooking. I learned from my Grandma June and her kitchen was her sanctuary, a small, warm sunlit space filled with jars of spices, stacks of cookbooks, and the comforting smell of something always on the stove or baking in the oven. Grandma June was as great a cook as she was a teacher to me. She never followed a recipe “to...
