Presentation +open-source reports
Modified By angelo95 on 4/29/2008 4:20:02 PM)

Hello,

I would like to drop here a few words there to introduce myself and join your group.

I am working for a business analysis company in London (UK) and have previously been working for Procter & Gamble.

I am very interested into your newsgroup. I am not myself a business analyst but an account manager selling analysis (basically reports) to retailers worldwide.

I would like to launch a project of open-source reports. If some people are interested by a such project -who knows- maybe we could work on it together...

Regards,

Re: Presentation +open-source reports

This sounds interesting. However, as a Business Analyst  I could participate in the project scoping and requirements elicitation/documentation.

It will be nice if you could elaborate a little bit on the idea.

Hi Vneytcheva and everyone,

As said, I am not myself an analyst. I am a business developer, and I am slightly planning to evolve as an independant consultant. I am focused on the Retail area, as I am working there in France and UK since several year now. I currently work with Retail analysts. We provide major retailers and manufacturers reports and online services about Retail : sector reports, forecasts, profiles, etc. These reports are really good but expensive (6000$).

As I am on the frontline doing new business, I realize customers are less and less ready to pay for strategic information. They want first to see how reliable is the information, how detailled is the analysis, etc. In the same time, they are sourcing themselves for free on the web. Ie see the excellent Goldman Sachs report about BRIC, available for free on their website.

In the next years, I am deeply convinced that the value of the information, even with high-level analysis inside, will go decreasing. But companies are more and more ready to pay for services. This phenomen is highly evident for software with the open-source wave. Apache, MySQL are excellent software for free. You pay the service if you want to go further with customization, installation, training, etc.

=> I have been working during the past months on a very innovant business plan for delivering open-source research to companies and universities. My objective is to provide a highly reliable information to these customers thanks to a community work (in the wikipedia way). I am actually looking for analysts interested to take part in this project, and I would be more than happy to present you more in a next time. But don't mistake, I am not trying to make money easily. I want to create something really huge, increasing the quality of the strategic research. As you can see I am more focused on Retail but I am open-minded.

Next steps :
- are there here some people interested in retail analysis ?
- if no, what are your range(s) of expertise ?
- if you are less or more interested by this project, please drop a short msg, I will tell you more then.

All your feedbacks are welcome,

Angelo
