Very good article! And there is a tremedous need to get back to the "course 101" level. What about analysis 101? All one has to do is go to any dictionary and look up the word "analysys" and then try to tie that into virtually any of the current business-analysis-related literature and he/she will see a large discrepancy between what analysis is really all about vs what the BA books and handbooks say need to be done. Doubt me? I could not find the word "partition" mentioned once in the BABOK.

Thanks for your note. I'm afraid I will have to agree with you. The material I've read in BABOK is more of a collection of techniques and tips as opposed to a definitive position on what a system is (which is one reason why I wrote the piece). Further, it seems nobody wants to define their terms. How can we be taken seriously if we do not define our terms and concepts?
