Career as BA

Hi,

I am from India.I am currently doing MBA in systems(MIS) from a reputed university. I have completed my graduation in chemistry.

I always had inclination towards I.T but was never interested in programming. My question is will my background be an obsatcle in becoming a good  B.A.

P.S   I am thankful to this forum that  a  lot is discussed of B.A  which is scarce here.

No background should be an obstacle to becoming a good business analyst.  I have met great BAs with a variety of backgrounds: IT, programming, music, business, social sciences, finance.

The main differentiator is what do you do to achieve your goals and how hard you work at it.  Basically, nobody becomes a good business analyst overnight and without working hard at it (learn, do, learn, do, and learn some more).  Your learning can come from: mentors, books, training courses, webinars, magazines, etc.

Re: Career as BA

Because you have a chemistry degree you should see if you can find a Junior BA slot in a chemistry related field.  A B.A. with "domain knowlege" has a leg up over one who has to learn it "from scratch."

As Business Analysts in Agile teams, we often hear about Definition of Ready (DOR) and Definition of Done (DOD). But beyond the buzzwords, these two concepts are powerful tools to drive clarity, consistency, and quality in our work. Definition of Ready ensures a user story is truly ready for development. It answers: Is this story clear, feasible...
In today's fast-paced digital world, successful projects aren't just built on great code—they're built on clarity. And that clarity often comes from one key player: the Business Analyst. At the heart of every great product or system is a need—a business goal, a customer pain point, or a regulatory requirement. But busines...
I have always loved cooking. I learned from my Grandma June and her kitchen was her sanctuary, a small, warm sunlit space filled with jars of spices, stacks of cookbooks, and the comforting smell of something always on the stove or baking in the oven. Grandma June was as great a cook as she was a teacher to me. She never followed a recipe “to...
