BA Competency Model

I am looking to define a competency model for the BSA group that I manage.  I want to show what competencies a BSA should be exhibiting for each career stage and I want to build a career path guideline that they can use to help define their personal goals.  can anybody point me toward some form of a model like this?

Mike,

I'm curious if anyone else is able to assist you with this.  I too have looked for a similar type of competency model for helping my analysts develop and grow at each stage of their career path.  I haven't found anything.  I was planning to put together something myself but haven't had the time as of yet.

Re: BA Competency Model

Mike,

have you tried the SFIA (skills for the information age) framework? Overview here - you have to register for full details.

I have not reviewed this is in any detail and so can not recommend it - I just know that in the UK this has some clout.

Let me know if this is useful to you as it would be interesting to know if the wealth of detail associated with this is of practical use in the 'real world'!

An alternative to this model is to do some analysis on the BSA group you manage: what are the measures by which they are assessed and what targets equate to success? Given those measures and targets, what is they need to do to hit those targets? Given what they need to do, what processes will they be operating and what information will they need to maintain?

I have a terms of reference for documenting the products of this analysis for a group like yours if that would be of use.

Guy

As Business Analysts in Agile teams, we often hear about Definition of Ready (DOR) and Definition of Done (DOD). But beyond the buzzwords, these two concepts are powerful tools to drive clarity, consistency, and quality in our work. Definition of Ready ensures a user story is truly ready for development. It answers: Is this story clear, feasible...
In today's fast-paced digital world, successful projects aren't just built on great code—they're built on clarity. And that clarity often comes from one key player: the Business Analyst. At the heart of every great product or system is a need—a business goal, a customer pain point, or a regulatory requirement. But busines...
I have always loved cooking. I learned from my Grandma June and her kitchen was her sanctuary, a small, warm sunlit space filled with jars of spices, stacks of cookbooks, and the comforting smell of something always on the stove or baking in the oven. Grandma June was as great a cook as she was a teacher to me. She never followed a recipe “to...
