Business Systems Analyst vs Business Analyst

Would you say that the difference in the roles of the Business System's Analyst and the Business Analyst is that the Business Systems Analyst is an expert at the systems they work on and the Business Analyst role would be more geared toward the expertise of documenting the requirements and testing pieces?

Hi Cody,

You are pretty much on the money... However, the reality is that the actual roles and responsibilities vary greatly per organization and per project.

It is generally accepted that a Business Analyst (in a more specific sense) deals with understanding the business model, the business needs, and the business requirements => the "what" needs to be accomplished.  The Systems Analyst tends to deal with the realization of the requirements and the functional specification and design of the system => the "how" things will get accomplished.

A Business Systems Analyst is a person who does both business and systems analysis.

Take a look at this post and see if it helps clarify further your question:

In today's fast-paced digital world, successful projects aren't just built on great code—they're built on clarity. And that clarity often comes from one key player: the Business Analyst. I have always loved cooking. I learned from my Grandma June and her kitchen was her sanctuary, a small, warm sunlit space filled with jars of spices, stacks of cookbooks, and the comforting smell of something always on the stove or baking in the oven. Grandma June was as great a cook as she was a teacher to me. She never followed a recipe “to...
