Are their any good sources for Business Process Modeling and Business Process Analysis. Like the different steps/phases one should make in this process and which elements are important in those steps?
I've found this BABOK document which was usefull, but to me it is to focused on software development.
I would be very thankfull.
Paul,
There are many process methods out there, none of which I will address in this post. what caught my eye was this "found this BABOK document which was useful, but to me it is to focused on software development"
My name is Perry McLeod I am a CBAP and a PMP. I am one of the first group of members of the IIBA and am currently the Vice President of Professional Development and Certification for the Toronto/GTA Chapter. I was a little taken back your comment. The BABOK is our body of knowledge and a guide to the profession of business analysis. It is not technical nor does it refer to technicaly oriented projects. Business analysis covers many aspects only one of which is process analysis.
I encourage you to learn more about the IIBA and any local chapters that you may have access to. Like PMI we are fast becoming the standard by which BAs will be measured, hired and possibly fired.
Version 2.0 is currently in the works and we are working hard to release it by this fall. I am on the review team and I can promise you that this version is far far more in depth than 1.6.
In addition, I would also urge you to consider looking into the CBAP designation (Certified Business Analysis Professional) as an independent - it will help raise you above your competitors.
well that's my pounds worth for today.

Hi Paul,
As Perry mentioned, there are many different methodologies for analyzing business processes and many notations for documenting them. Unfortunately, there aren't many very good free resources out there. I would recommend that you actually take a course in business process modeling. This is something that I advice all new/junior business analysts.
Short of that, try to find some well rated books on the topic. Here are some examples of business process analysis/modeling books:
As far as a modeling notation I recommend the Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN).
