Re: Getting a job in the USA

Hey Craig,

Great question!  From what I have experienced I do not think employers will do much more than they already are in thier efforts as related to recruiting overseas or, Global Recruiting as it is sometimes referred to.  Reason being there is much more outsourcing and offshore work being done that companies can and need to concentrate within their own Countries.  Not only is it a logistical concern but it also becomes an issue of Immigration getting a work Visa, Greencard or applying for Citizenship.  Unless it is a highly specialized industry/position or the applicant was from an overseas branch of said company I believe the majority of companies would shy away from International candidates.

International Candidates would have the best chance with Large companies that have offices overseas or working within their own companies if they have US offices.

I don't have any quotes at this time to support my answer.  This is based upon my own experience.

Re: Business Analyst Prospects in Australia

Hi Patrick,

Please advice on the future prospects for the Business Analyst in Australia as it seems more in practice in US but is new here. It is difficult to specifically get the right place and right organisation where it the specification is mentioned clearly it is rather asking for analyst/programmar.

Hi Arjun,

Just based on anecdotal evidence, the outlook for the Business Analyst profession in Australia looks to be very good.  There are a number of Australian Business Analysts who are members of the Modern Analyst community.

It is possible that the Australian IT industry is still defining the role and titles for the business analyst which is why you are experiencing difficulty finding a specific "business analyst" position.  I've noticed that this is the case in many other areas as the role of the business analyst continues to evolve.

If you are looking for an entry level business analyst position then you might also have a harder time finding one.  It is not because there is no need for such a position but it seems that most companies have not yet learned how to use and train entry level business analysts - they somehow expect that "somebody else" will given these BA's the necessary skills and experience before they hire them.  The things are improving though with many organizations realizing the need for a Business Analysis Center of Excellence to provide a standard and clear path for business analysts within an organization to grow from the junior to the senior level.

Re: Business Analyst Prospects in Australia

Thank you Adrian, for your prompt answer.

This site has always been helpful for everyone who have interest to persue their career as a Business Analyst.

You are absolutely right that it is harder to specifically find the particular business analyst postion here as it is new to many organisation. I am also not surprised now that even the recruitment agents come up with the business analyst kind role with the name of "Application support role", and sometimes it is called Management Reporting and are in MIS in bank.

There is always a chance to loose hands on those positions as they are hidden and it is not termed business analyst.

I am confused here how can I evaluate and convince get hand on to those roles while serching jobs which I believe is business analyst role but are described without the term used in BABOK.

Please advice

Thanks

Arjun
