Hello I am new to the world of Analysis and am currently in school taking a course on Systems Analysis and Design. I am conducting research for a paper on what System Develpement Methodologies are prevelant and in what industries.

Suggestion: Focus on system analysis methodologies before system development methodologies. BIG difference, and as BAs, we need to be more focused on the former than the latter.
The BA world is full of "use what ever feels apporpiate" notions when it comes to system analysis methodology selection. Try to find a sensible answer to the question: How does a BA position data flow diagrams vs use cases vs BPM vs activity diagrams relative to each other? The leading BA certification handbook states things like BPM is for modeling business processes and data flow diagrams are for modeling system functions. However, that is wrong - very popular, but very wrong. Such statements are just playing mumbo jumbo with words. And the handbook that I referred to is signed off by leading "experts". God help us all!
Analysis is largely about partitioning. If you want to know the secrets to analysis, do what very very few are willing to do: Evaluate how the various methodologies actually guide the BA through system partitioning. Critical point: Focus on how the methodology actually guides (prods) one through analysis- not on how the methodology documents the results of analysis.
