Hi,
What would an analysis head's responsibilities be? Im working on establishing an analysis unit that already has five analysts.
Regards,
Hadeel
Hi Hadeel,
If I was doing this I would find out who can sanction the analysis unit to proceed (or stop it from proceeding) and work out how they will measure if the unit has been successful or not (smart objectives).
I would then work out what needs to be done to ensure that these targets will be achieved (functional requirements) and the scope of the units impact in terms of processes, organisation units, locations, data, applications and technolgies (and anything else relevant).
I would then agree with the unit who should be performing which functions for which elements of the scope - those assigned to me would define my functional responsibility and scope, and I would also have the targets that I am accountable for the unit achieving.
Hope this helps,
Guy
Hi:
The head analyst should "lead the charge." He/she should do what is the most important thing to do - and which is the hardest thing to do: Come up with a comprehensive, integrated understanding of the essential functionality of the system and - especially - the interrelationships (i.e., data flows) between those functions. In other words the head analyst, especially on larger scale projects, should be the strong integrator.

Hadeel,
Create a team that is "helpful" to the organization. Work with your internal clients and find out what ads value to their endeavours and pursue these with vigor. Create some standards for your group. Define your group's processes that deliver value to your clients. (eg. If you use BPMN create a BPMN cheat sheet; if you use UML define which of the 13 artefacts are to be used; if you going to define and list requirement, state how each requirement should be written) Find a methodology and get some templates ready - you dont want to re-invent the wheel everytime you do an assignment. Furthermore your team will know what to deliver. Define your deliverables to your internal clients and team so that they know what to deliver. Set some quality practices in place so that your service delivery is nothing but excellent! Pick the hanging fruit - that is provide value to your customers that is the most obvious and easy to do.
Most of all: TRUST your team and develop a participative management style allowing your team members to use their intellect and abilities to ad value to your internal clients. Train your team. Mentor the team as best you can; know your limitations and seek a mentor for yourself.
warm regards,
K
I would divide the responsibilities of the analysis manager into two main categories:
As a manger you need to be ready to tackle all the various tasks that come with a leadership position:
As an analyst you will need to build the level of business analysis maturity:
Hope this helps!
