Transition to a BA role

Hi,

I am new to this forum and am very impressed by the kind of activity that is happening here...

I am here for some expert advice. I have about 5 years of experience in the IT sector managing projects in both the development and the testing side. I also have an MBA in FInance from India. Now I would like to move into a business analyst role, but Im finding it very difficult to get an opening.

How do you think I should proceed?  Will any of these certifications add value to my profile?

I am based out of London.

Would greatly appreciate your help.

Thanks very much.

Re: Transition to a BA role

Take a look at some of the forum posts as some of your questions have probably been answered.

In addition here are a couple of more suggestions for you:

  • Don't worry about certifications to get going, just begin to learn the skills of the business analysts: requirements elicitation and management, process modeling, functional specification creation, etc.
  • Consider taking an introductory course in business analysis - in UK see: http://www.businessanalystsolutions.com/
  • Find a local recruiting firm/agency and let them do the search for you for entry level BA positions

Hope this helps!

- Adrian

Also

Go to analysts and project managers in your current environment and ask them to assess your skills in relation to the BA role.  Be repared for criticism, and be prepared to act on it.

Re: Transition to a BA role

Thanx very much for the inputs..

One more question please, what do you think about ISEB certifications/diploma in Business Analysis?  Is it recognized internationally?

WIll it be useful for gaining entry into the field?

While it is not an interntional certification, the British Computer Society stands behind the ISEB Diploma in Business Analysis which is a good thing!  I don not have first hand experience with this program but my gut feeling tells me you won't go wrong achieving this espcially if you go through the training courses.

Best regards,
