Looking for job after 3 years break- Suggestions Please

I am a Business Analyst. I have so far worked on projects as a contractor.  I have been in Healthcare and Insurance industries.

These days I am looking for job again. Importantly, I am coming out of almost three years break. I stayed at home to give time to my family and now I am back in job market.

I have realized that I am losing a lot of interest/attention because of 3 years hiatus in my resume. If recruiters are interested in my profile firstly, then they excuse themselves out that I am currently NOT working and client wants someone currently IN THE LOOP.

Please suggest me what should I do?

Should I look for volunteer BA job? What could be a good way to approach?

I will look forward to suggestion.

Thanks

Re: Looking for job after 3 years break- Suggestions Please

I would enroll in some Continuing Education classes at the community college and get updated on some Business Analyst / Project Manager methods / processes / software ... maybe even a certificate program.

Some volunteer work might get you up to speed again.

If asked, you can say that when your last contract ended, the recession has caused a longer delay in finding work ... but that delay has actually turned into a positive experience ... because it gave you some missing family time and also time to go back to school and update your skills ... and with the new updated skills, you assisted with some projects at needy organizations (church, non-profit, etc) ... now that those are done, you are ready for more challenges ... what do you have ?

Work your contacts! Contact the companies you worked for before you had your sabbatical. What about your contacts in other companies in your area? If you aren't on LinkedIn, sign up.

Re: Looking for job after 3 years break- Suggestions Please

You can do the following things to get yourself back in the market

1. Get some training/educatio/certification

2. Get some volunteer work - our orgaization is looking for some volunteers if needed contact

3 . Make sure your resume is good

4. Prepare well for interviews and the first call with the recruiters You should sound intelligent in your field , no matter if you had some break.

Thanks
