Merging Business & Sytems Analysis Team

Hi,

I am the manager of an IT Systems Analysis team and we are being merged with a Business Analysis function, has anyone been through this before?  Any ideas how to merge the disciplines going forward?  I am thinking the idea is that this is a resource pool to minimise the need to double up on projects, has anyone gone through this before and if so what lessons would you share.

Any advice opinion is welcome.

Thanks

Paul

Re: Merging Business & Sytems Analysis Team
Business analysts interact with the business and Talk To People to understand what is needed ... writes requirements and sends them off to the technical side who Talks To The Computers (Programming, Hardware, Change Management, etc.).

So, if you need to be a Business Analyst, you need to learn how to talk to Non-Technical people to gather information for a new product ... don't try to scare them with fancy technical talk.

I've seen BA's that were not technical, but had great people skills and could work with the business side to get all the info needed to have something built.

I've seen BSA's that didn't have the personality to talk to anything but a computer ... they tried to impress others with big words and then those people were afraid to talk to a BA.

I have been a consultant for over 30 years and have many times took a project from Idea to Delivery, working by myself (feasibility, requirements, coding, installing, training, etc.) talking to everyone or leading teams as a PMP ... however, I still need to communicate with the technical side to see if the project is possible and to also get ideas from them.

Programmer, BA, BSA, PMP, etc ... I don't care what you call me ... just pay me.

Good Luck

Re: Merging Business & Sytems Analysis Team

I agree with NitWitNick. When the Business Analysts sit or talk to the other teams then they have to deal in both the terms i.e. technical and non-technical and I guess its part of their work, so they can easily manage it.

Else, in case you need any other then you can refer http://growthoracle.com/ and can get the appropriate help.
