Workflow Modeling Methodology?

Hi everyone,

I'm a new BA and also I've searched a lot about Workflow Modeling Methodologies and I know one of the major problems of modeling workflow systems is tahat each WFMS uses its own modeling technique . I 'm working on a paper and I've been trying to do a compilation of workflow modeling methodologies but I 've only found one when I've read Workflow Modeling Tools for Process Improvement and Applications Development (Second Edition) by Alec Sharp it focus on swimlane diagrams. In other books , I found that workflow models are divided into 2 groups: activity-based models and models based on communication but just that classification.
In addition , there are other sources of information that classified according to modeling languages used for example IDF activity diagram UML, BPMN , etc IS there a real methodolgy?. I would like to know if there is a widely accepted classification for workflow modeling . Can you tell me if they are workflow modeling Methodologies , Workflow Modeling Techniques or are just languages for modeling workflow.

Thanks in advance, sorry for my poor English!!

Re: Workflow Modeling Methodology?

I use BPMN which is just a modelling notation. Same as UML's activity diagram and Microsoft Visio's ridiculous notation that everyone seems to use. Not a methodology. Think IDF is a notation only too - if its the one I'm thinking about it came out of the armed services.

Six Sigma might be considered a methodology but I don't know much about it.

Re: Workflow Modeling Methodology?

To me, the most important thing for workflow modelling is making sure they make sense to the audience.

My fave is Rummler Brache but I also like SIPOC because it gives you a great understanding of the end-to-end process

I have always loved cooking. I learned from my Grandma June and her kitchen was her sanctuary, a small, warm sunlit space filled with jars of spices, stacks of cookbooks, and the comforting smell of something always on the stove or baking in the oven. Grandma June was as great a cook as she was a teacher to me. She never followed a recipe “to...
Now, I know, I don’t know what kind of new intro BPO may require, but at least I can promise you upfront that I have something different to say about Business Process Outsourcing or simply BPO. What is it? This hasn't been a call center job or a sales job as we all think. It is a mammoth profile, and firms are grappling to ge...
