Modelling of a step that could occur at any point during the process

Hello,

I'm in the middle of creating a process flow diagram where one of the steps could occur at any point through out the process.  I am not a 100% sure how to model such condition.  Has anyone faced the same challenge?  If so, how did you model such step? Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Roman

Re: Modelling of a step that could occur at any point during the process

We just draw it as a separate process flow with an event as the trigger

Good point...thanks! However, where in the process do you put that event?  Do you put it after the first step that could trigger this process?

Thanks for feedback,

Roman

We typically would have it completely separate. We use RML which has a very simplified process flow nomenclature. Basically you might have your main process flow and then below it, completely unconnected you have a triggerable process flow with the trigger as the first step. You might need to do a call out to make it very clear when the event can be triggered. The trigger is a circle and kicks off the process flow. If the trigger can only be active during certain steps, then we might draw lines from each of those steps to the trigger itself. If can be part of every step then we probably would not draw the lines from every step, but would have a callout highlighting that it can be called from any other step.
