POLL: - BA's Where in the Org are you?

I am a Business Analyst in Supply Chain within a utility company.  I am researching to determine where in other orgnaizations Business Analysts report to?  Are you located and reporting to specific channels that you support or do all of the analysts work in one group reporting up to one person and then dotted line out to different channels or lines of business?

Please let me know your thoughts and how it is set up structurally in your company.

Thanks!

Re: POLL: - BA's Where in the Org are you?

Hii:

I have a degree in Industrial Engineering.  Unlike Adrian, most of my BA experience has been coming from the buisiness side.   One thing for sure: I am in the minority.

Re: POLL: - BA's Where in the Org are you?

As a BA, I've always been considered part of the IT team, and have reported to the IT Manager, though most never understood what I was there to do. In just one instance and for a short time only, I also reported to a regional Finance Manager in our organization. I think a BA usually ends up being fiercely independent and not really formal loyalties with anyone. For me alliances and relationships with key business stakeholders has always been more fruitful.

Re: POLL: - BA's Where in the Org are you?

When I work as a BA I sometimes work on the IT side; but most of the time I work on the business side. As a consultant I work primarily on the business side; as an Enterprise Architect, I work with the Business and the deliverable is then given to IT.
