Would-be Student with Questions

Hello All, I'm a new member at this website and in the process of applying to go to school and study DA.  As part of my application, I need to conduct an informational interview with a professional in my field of interest.

It's pretty cut-and-dried; I've got a list of 5 questions to ask.  We can interview face to face or by phone (I'll be responsible for any long-distance phone calls of course).

Hope to hear from someone soon . . . and, I hope this is an appropriate question for this forum?  As mentioned, I am a newb  : \    I will also post this in the Getting Started Forum, although I see "Business Analysis" there more than I see "Data Analysis."

Thanks very much!

When getting people for a contract ... we always like to do Face-To-Face interviews ... covers a lot of territory, especially to see how they show-up, meet team members, some users, etc. ... a personality that will fit in with all ... something hard to get over the phone.

I see "Business Analysis" there more than I see "Data Analysis." From an article: "Data analysts are required to possess sharp technical knowledge" Lots of BA's have Very Little technical background to look at Live Data, using SQL, Know how to build Tables, Fields, Keys, etc. Good Luck.

Re: Would-be Student with Questions

NitWitNick is correct that many Business Analysts lack Data Analysis skills.  But certainly not all, since strong BAs should have basic Data Analysis skills. And we do have some people on this site who consider themselves Data Analyst.  Hopefully, they see your question and respond.

Re: Would-be Student with Questions

Thanks Chris.  No one has responded.  No one responded at LinkedIn, either.  Data Analysts are hard to find, or they're reluctant to talk.  Elusive.

Re: Would-be Student with Questions

Hey again Chris, I think I may be using this forum incorrectly?  At the page listing all the forums and threads, I saw I had six replies to my original post, over two pages (screen shot below).  However when I clicked to go to the actual thread I only saw 4 replies on 1 page.  Where do I go to see the 2 other replies on the 2nd page?
