With the public review period for the draft IIBA BABOK 3.0 completed, many have had the chance to get a sneak peak at its content. With its planned publication late 2014/early 2015, and the resulting BOK 3.0 exam's availability later in 2015, you may be contemplating which book to study from to take the exam.
Based on my deep familiarity with each, I suggest waiting for the (greatly!) new-and-improved BABOK 3.0 version. It will prove invaluable - not only as an improved learning resource, but a far better study guide.
Reasons:
1) This version is better structured with repeated references to the foundational Core Concept Model throughout.
2) Perspective descriptions: Agile, Business Intelligence, etc. that will boost understanding of the KAs and Tasks.
3) More substantive content. Example: The current, bare-bone BOK 2.0 Elicitation KA has been thankfully overhauled with more detail in BOK 3.0.
4) Content that is better aligned across KAs and their tasks! This improvement will correct BOK 2.0 Input/output gaps/breakdowns within the text that have long caused frustration among studiers.
5) Consistent use of terms with an expanded glossary. Gone will be the inconsistent use of dozens of terms across the BOK that have puzzled many
6) Correction of typos, poor grammar, etc. Based on public review, the BOK 3.0 will likely be of better quality!
