Is there anyone really hiring "Junior" BAs ???

I was at Toronto "IT" job fair today ... there were lot of on spot pre-srceening going on for new openings. I was the one there felt like a dumb ... as mentioned previously in other posts, I came to a dicision at this point of my career to step into the area and apply for Junior BA position based on my education,  skills, and experiences! However, they all required "2/3 years of experience" for BA positions. So who are hiring Junior BAs and where are they?. By the way, I've recently made myself available to relocate cross Canada instead.

This is not frustrating to me .... but I just need to find out better way to knock the rigght door. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Re: Is there anyone really hiring "Junior" BAs ???

Are you working now? If so, does your company have BA positions? It may take a while but an internal move may be the main way to get that first position. When you are a known quantity at a company, the prior experience is not a big need, especially if you get a BA position that works in the area you are working in now.

David,

I do appreciate your thoughts in it. But, unfortunately, the BA concept does not exist at my work place ... Yes, otherwise, that would be a good move. I guess.

Re: Is there anyone really hiring "Junior" BAs ???

Newbie,

David has given some great advice.  It is always easier to find a new position within your current company even if you are looking to switch roles.  Thought it sounds like this isn't an option for you.

First, let me asure you that you are not alone in your frustration.  I can remember the days when I was trying to land a job as a junior develop or the first time I tried to secure a position in the financial services industry.  It's always very difficult.

In my experience, few companies look to hire junior analysts.  This is usually because of several reasons.

  1. Companies almost always wait too long to staff up projects.  This leaves them with too much work and too few staff, so they feel they have even less time to train people and want senior professionals who they think will be productive faster and accomplish more over time.
  2. Companies often don't know how to properly train junior employees, nor do they have appropriate processes and methods in places to do so.

I'm not telling you this to discourage you, but so that you can prepare for the difficulties ahead of you.  There are enough companies out there that some will hire junior analysts.  The good news is that, in my experience, its the best companies that hire junior analysts.  These are the companies that have structured processes and training programs in place to train junior analyst.  Also, if a hiring manager is smart, they will oftern realize that its easier to train a bright and enthusiastic junior candidate over a more senior one that lacks the same enthusiam and may have there own way of doing things

Stay hopeful and keep looking!

Thanx Chris for telling me the reality and the truth. I have been looking everywhere and everyday. I don't think I'm giving it up soon w/o exploring all the avenues ... however, less chances are on the way in the near future, higher the stress level !!!!!!!
