Two big companies merging.

Hi,

I am Srikanth working as a Business Analyst. Our company is merging with another company which is equivalent in size.  Awe got 32 department that provides various services and a number of business process flows attached to each department. Systems/application we got, technology, infrastructure, data to support the business.

At a starting point,

1) what documents/deliverables do we need to produce to add value?

2) How can we merge two companies that produces services?

I am stuck as this is a lot of information that needs to be captured and please suggest or throw few ideas on how we can start making some practical recommendations

I understand having blue prints of 2 organisations at enterprise level (Business, technology, infrastructure &Data) would help but as a BA I am more focused at business layer.

Please suggest.

Thanks,Srikanth.

"Our company is merging with another company which is equivalent in size."

Depends on what that size is ... The biggest I did was two Nation-Wide Banks (Around 250,000+ Employees Total).

With the banks, we establish a management directive (kind of a checklist to follow) which can be used by acquisition / integration teams ... starting at the most important stuff the company needs to operate on first.

I'd also check to see what kind of computer systems are used ... the same, maybe the same software, databases, etc. and which way do they want to go (PC to mainframes, Mainframes to PC) ... and work at data conversions plans from that.

Remember: the larger company has most of the employees it needs and the other companies employees could be expandable once the merger is complete ... keep your resume updated.

Have Fun
