CMM Matrix

Hi

Do any of the readers of this forum know where I can find a generic type matrix/ table for describing a business analysis displines capablitiy maturity levels in some detail, please?  I have found high level information about CMM and CMMI used for organisations as whole but very little around using it to identify where a business analysis displine iteslf, would be in terms of its maturity.  I have now began to put together my own matrix, some of it based on the BABOK.  However, I wanted a generic matrix, showing 1 to 5 levels of maturity, so that I can overlay my own BA displine on it and show it as a heat map of where we are mature and the areas which need more work.  As an example of a single row in my matrix see below.  If anyone has somthing similar which exists in more detail that would be great thanks.

Practice

  1. Informal

  1. Repeatable

  1. Defined

  1. Measurable

  1. Optimising

Resource Management

BA team under resourced, insufficient BA’s with the right skills and experience to meet the demands of the business.

Reactive resource planning.  Minimal use of resource tracking or capacity planning, basic time recording by BA’s.  Work effort timing not used in planning future project work

Business analysis undertaken by business users and SME’s

Adequate BA resource with skills to meet business need on projects.

Weak workload planning. Use of time recording system but with minimal analysis for projecting future capacity. Late or overdue identification of need for business analysis support.  Poorly defined role description/ requirement

BA team sufficiently resourced with correct number of staff to meet current project pipeline and have contingency where possible.  Full use made of 3rd party contractors and supplier organisation to provide BA resource.

Measure in place for capacity planning in meeting future business needs

Utilise metrics to evaluate resourcing levels to adapt to change needs of the business

Re: CMM Matrix

Here are some useful resources from ModernAnalyst.com related to the Business Analyst Competency Model or a Business Analysis Capability Model:

For a professional BA model, you also need to check out the IIBA's Business Analysis Competency Model.
